- History Teacher
Darrell Duncan teaches Advance Placement American and Advance Placement European History at Merrol Hyde. He earned his B.A. in History from David Lipscomb University and his teaching certification from Trevecca. Mr. Duncan was honored to be chosen as Merrol Hyde's and Sumner County's High School Teacher of the Year in 2012. He is from Gallatin, Tennessee and proud to be a product of the Sumner County School System. He began teaching here at MHMS in 2006, after managing the Porter Paint store in Gallatin and teaching faux finish classes at Vol State.
Mr. Duncan is a lifelong learner and has spent several summers with the National Endowment for the Arts continuing his education by studying at the Henry Ford Center on America's 2nd Industrial Revolution, Southern University on the Life of Abraham Lincoln, The Tsongas Industrial Historical Center in Lowell, Massachusetts on America's first Industrial Revolution and has attended multiple Gilder Lehrman workshops studying the Constitution at Princeton University and Thomas Jefferson at the University of Virginia and Monticello.
Darrell's hobby is traveling and seeing the places where history happened. He likes to do this with his wife, Tracy Duncan (also a Merrol Hyde teacher) and has taken multiple cruises and trips around the US, Carribean, and Europe. He also chaperones school trips to share the love of travel and history with his students.
