Merrol Hyde Magnet School

Welcome to Merrol Hyde Academics - Educating the Whole Child

MHMS is committed to excellence in K-12, college preparatory education that emphasizes a well-rounded experience using the Paideia philosphy of teaching the whole child - mind, body, and spirit.  We are different than other public programs because our goals and philosophy focus on the learning experience and growth of each student. Every student regularly participates in Paideia seminars which help them see and respect the values and ideas of classic literature, art, music, current events, and each of their classmates.

Elementary School

Our elementary school is ranked #1 in Tennessee. Elementary students transition to middle school at least 1 grade level ahead. Every student is exposed to foreign language starting in kindergarten.  MHMS is not an immersion school; yet our students learn the basic conversation, grammar, and culture of French and Spanish in Elementary.

Middle School

Our middle school is ranked #1 in Tennessee. Middle school students earn high school credits in Algebra and foreign language. In addition to French and Spanish, middle school students have the opportunity to take Latin and Mandarin Chinese.

High School

Our high school is the #1 high school in Tennessee, and ranked #7 nationally among all high schools. Every high school student takes at least 1 AP course and every graduate leaves with a minimum of 6 hours of college credit, with the average graduate arriving on their college campus with 11+ college credit hours. The class of 2021 posted an average ACT score of 30.2, which is highest in the state of TN and more than 9 points above the national average.  13 MHMS Alumni have posted a perfect 36.

Shared Vision

Merrol Hyde Magnet School is a unique, K-12 learning community that uses the Paideia philosophy of educating the whole child--mind, body, and spirit--to meet the needs of students.  We will provide intentional, rigorous, accelerated college-preparatory instruction focused on humanities and critical and creative thinking.

We will create a collaborative community where students and teachers actively engage in continual growth and learning, seek out and civilly discuss diverse ideas and values, and pursue solutions to enrich their lives and the lives of others.
