Newspaper: The Talon

BY: MORGAN DEAKINS

Since 2006, The Talon has provided students with amazing up-to-date news and school info free of charge. Since the 2013 redesign The Talon has rededicated itself to bring high-quality information and opinion pieces for the well-informed reader in an assortment of mediums. Published physically once a semester and daily with many online posts, The Talon has never been more accessible to students.

If you want the latest news, the Talon is the place to get it. Around 5-15 people are on the staff of The Talon. Some positions that they have are Editor-in-Chief, Copy Editor, Photographers, Social Media Manager, Quotes-In-The-Corridors Master, and Physical Copy Designer. Some future plans for The Talon is to be completely online. They will still do advertising in the online version of The Talon. There was a worry that The Talon wouldn’t be read as much as it would if it was given to the people, but they came up with a solution and that was to use social media. They will use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and posters. David McCoy is wanting to take this one step further though and is trying to create an app as his senior project. A reason to go online with The Talon is that anyone can read The Talon anytime they want at all hours of the day. They are also able to read previous copies of The Talon since they are archived.

Shared Vision

Merrol Hyde Magnet School is a unique, K-12 learning community that uses the Paideia philosophy of educating the whole child--mind, body, and spirit--to meet the needs of students.  We will provide intentional, rigorous, accelerated college-preparatory instruction focused on humanities and critical and creative thinking.

We will create a collaborative community where students and teachers actively engage in continual growth and learning, seek out and civilly discuss diverse ideas and values, and pursue solutions to enrich their lives and the lives of others.
