    • Applicants must be a resident of Sumner County
    • Kindergarten applicants must be 5 years of age by August 15 and cannot be currently attending, enrolled in, or completed/ audited any Kindergarten program.

    •  No bus transportation will be provided.

    • Students applying to Merrol Hyde Magnet School will be given an entrance exam. Applicants must score 85% or higher in reading, math, and language on the exam. 

    • In an effort to align the MHMS screening process with best practices in the use of data, initial screening results will be valid for the following lengths of time: K-2 three years 3-12 one year

    • Special education services are available in all schools in Sumner County, including Merrol Hyde Magnet, for children meeting the enrollment criteria. The Sumner County School System does not discriminate against students with disabilities. An IEP Team at the school will meet on an individual basis to determine what services a student needs.

    • When that time limit is reached, students remaining on the waiting list will be reconsidered for entry eligibility by using the individual results from the district assessments (TCAP, EOC, TN READY). Students whose scores are not in the 85%tile range on current assessments will be removed from the waiting list.

Merrol Hyde Magnet is an academic magnet school with an emphasis in foreign language.  Rigor and challenge at an accelerated pace are expected and embedded in our curriculum.
