Administration

Darren Frank is the proud principal of Merrol Hyde Magnet School, bringing decades of experience, a deep commitment to student success, and a heart for education. He earned his degree in Special Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, which certified him to teach the full spectrum of special education—from remedial to gifted—across grades K–12. He also holds a Master of Arts in Education from Cumberland University, as well as a Plus-30 Endorsement in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee State University and Union University in Hendersonville.

During his college years, Mr. Frank broadened his academic and cultural horizons by studying abroad for a semester at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England—a sister campus of the University of Evansville.

While he never originally envisioned a career in school administration, his journey took a meaningful turn in 2002 when his principal asked him to serve as assistant principal for a semester. That experience revealed a new passion and calling. Darren embraced the opportunity, discovering both strengths and areas for growth in leadership. In 2011, he was named principal of Ellis Middle School, a role he held until transitioning to Merrol Hyde in the summer of 2016.

A lifelong Hendersonville resident, Darren attended Nannie Berry Elementary, Hawkins Junior High, and Hendersonville High School—where he met his wife, Kim. Together, they have two children: Adam (MHMS Class of 2017) and Sally (MHMS Class of 2023). His older sister is an English teacher at Station Camp High School, and his parents, both retired, remain an influential part of his life and still reside in Hendersonville.

Mr. Frank enjoys all things outdoors, especially when shared with family. He never passes up a walk with Kim and has a strong passion for international mission work through his church.
