Dress Code Additions
for Middle School 6th ,7th and 8th
Grade Students
2007 - 08
- 6th,
7th and 8th grade middle school students will continue to adhere to all
elementary dress code regulations and vendors with the following additions.
- Boys
and girls may wear other solid color shirts
in addition to the elementary dress code colors, but these shirts must
be purchased either from Lands’ End or French Toast.
- Footwear is not restricted except
for NO flip flops.
- 6th,
7th and 8th grade students may wear shorts, skorts, and crop pants
(5” from ankle, only available from Lands’ End) if they meet the
elementary dress code regulations and are purchased from Lands’ End or
French Toast, even through the 9th through 12th
grade may not wear these items.
Skirts, shorts and skorts must be of appropriate length. (no
shorter than 3” from the bend of the back of the knee.)
- Belts are required daily with
pants or skirts that have belt loops.
Belts may be black, brown, navy or tan. No metal, sparkles or jewels allowed on
belts.
- Shirts
must be tucked in at all times for males and females.
Jewelry/Miscellaneous
- Body
piercing on earlobes only
- No
black nail polish or make-up
- No
excessive jewelry
- Earrings
should be post style or small hoop style (1” or less diameter)
- No
caps, combs, bandanas, leg warmers, arm bands, gloves or chains
- Hair
length must be worn to allow eyes to be seen at all times, not just when
hair is momentarily swept back
- No
extreme hair colors or hairstyles

Males and Females
Belts
All students must wear a belt if the pants or skirt has belt
loops. The belt may be black, brown,
navy, or tan.
Shirts must be tucked in at all time for males and females.
Socks and Shoes
- Socks
must be solid and match each other (Exception: argyle socks)
- Tights
and hosiery must be solid (Exception:
a subtle pattern in hose/tights)
- No
tube socks with skirts
- No
flip-flops, house shoes or cleats
- Shoes
must match each other
- Shoes
may not have lights, flashing lights or characters
- No
heels that could be considered a hazard

Crested Shirt
Each student needs a long or short sleeve white shirt embroidered with the Merrol Hyde Magnet School crest. These can be ordered from Lands’ End or the
school. You may take purchased shirts to
Concept One in Gallatin
(452-2900). This needs to be a CRESTED
SHIRT, not just one with the school name monogrammed on it.
Jewelry/Miscellaneous
- Body

must be covered; no writing on skin like a tattoo allowed

Outerwear
Outerwear that is worn during the school day must meet the
school dress code (no writing, no denim, etc).
No sweatshirts, hoodies (except the solid cardigan style sold at MHMS),
fleece, or heavy coats allowed during the school day. If it does not meet dress code, it will
remain it the locker.
IMPORTANT:
ANY DRESS OR
ACCESSORIES THAT ARE DEEMED DANGEROUS OR DISTRACTING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. FINAL AUTHORITY ON ANY QUESTIONABLE DRESS,
FOOTWEAR, OR ACCESSORIES WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE PRINCIPAL. PARENTS WILL BE CALLED TO BRING SUITABLE
CLOTHES IF CLOTHING DOES NOT FALL INTO THESE CLEAR GUIDELINES. MERROL HYDE MAGNET SCHOOL IS A CHOICE SCHOOL AND STUDENTS ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL MUST ADHERE TO THIS DRESS CODE.

neck or mock turtle necks will qualify as a collared shirt
