Science Olympiad Competition
Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit
organization dedicated to improving the quality of science
education, increasing student interest and recognizing
outstanding achievement in science. Science Olympiad events are
balanced among three broad areas of standards; concepts and
knowledge, processes and inquiry skills and application and
technology.
Throughout the first six months of the school year, students
work with qualified individuals to prepare to compete at the
regional competition in a one day event in February. Eighteen
events take place within the disciplines of biology, physics,
earth science, chemistry, computers and technology. Individual
teams are made up of one or two students and meet 2-4 times a
month with their individual coach. Qualified winners move on to
state competitions.
The MHMS Science Olympiad Team is currently open to 15 high
school students interested in furthering their academic career
in science. The middle school team will be available at a future
date.
