Robotics Gears Up Again!
As the new school year gets into swing, the Merrol Hyde Robotics Club is gearing up for what they hope to be a great year. The club was founded in 2008 by sophomore (now junior) Will Butterworth and is open to students in grades 6-12. Although robotics sounds like a club only for those intrigued by science, it is actually a great opportunity for other fields as well. Anyone interested in engineering, public relations, journalism, web page design, marketing, public speaking, programming, and much more are invited to become a part of this diverse group.
Every year in the Fall, the club participates in a program known as BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology). This program hosts an annual six week competition that challenges students’ creativity and skills in various areas. The Kick-Off Day for this year’s competition, entitled “High Octane”, is September 5, 2009. The actual robotics competition will be held on October 17, 2009 at LipscombUniversity, Allen Arena. At this competition, students will be judged based on the robot they construct, the notebook they write, speeches made, team spirit, and much more. This is a great opportunity for students to become more involved in their school while at the same time learning and having a great time!
