Forensics Team
Click to see the results of the recent
tournaments! This year marked the
team’s best showing at Districts and the most entries to ever
continue to the State Tournament.
The forensics team is open to students in
Grade 9-12.
What is Forensics? Forensics is competitive public speaking in which one analyzes a topic in a speech or a piece of literature for oral interpretation.
NFL: National Forensic League
There are two types of events: speaking and interpretation (acting). For this first year, if you are interested in
speaking, you will compete in original oratory. This event requires that you write and memorize an eight to ten minute speech on a persuasive topic (problem, cause, solution). You need to use outside references in order to support your speech, much like writing a research paper but keeping in mind it is to be spoken, not read.
In forensics, acting is called interpretation because you use a script book. Mainly, there is
prose and poetry interpretation. The poetry must be around a specific theme.
ALL PERFORMANCE MATERIAL MUST BE TIMED AND HAVE A CONSISTENT TIME EACH PERFORMANCE.
All tournaments will be held on Saturdays with the exception of District and State (a Friday will be included). For most of you, class will not be missed.
Most of the time, we will head out of the school parking
lot around 6:00 A.M. Saturday morning and return around 6:00
P.M. Saturday evening.
Expenses: Entry fees are $6.00 per event. In
the beginning, you will only be in one event. Later, some of you
might pick up a second event (doubling). High School students
cannot compete in more than two events. You will also have to
pay for lunch.
