IMPORTANT!
All athletes must have a current physical form signed by a
physician, a copy of a parent’s insurance card, and a signed
parental release turned in to the coach before a student may
participate in any kind of practice, conditioning, camp, or
athletic event. Check
www.TSSAA.org
for the physical and release forms. Contact your
coach (see below) if you have questions.

2007-2008 Sports
Teams
Dear Dear Parents and Students,
As you know, one of the founding goals of Merrol Hyde Magnet
School is to develop our students into well rounded citizens,
focusing on educating the body, mind, and spirit.
In regards to this we require all of our students, grades 7-12
to participate in a sport. Students are required to attend all
practices and games in order to meet this requirement. Please
use the information that follows to pick the sport that is best
suited for you and your child. Please be aware that you will
need to provide transportation to and from practices and/or
games if they are off the school campus.
Fall Sports
Golf
Golf is open to boys and girls in grades 8-12. Tryouts are held
in May of each school year. Golf practice begins July 31 and
runs through the first of October. You are encouraged to play
golf throughout the summer. Athletes will practice every
afternoon after school.
Cross Country
Cross Country is open to boys and girls in grades 7-12. Cross
Country practice begins July 31. Middle school athletes should
be able to run two miles and high school athletes should be able
to run three miles by July 31. Cross Country season runs through
the end of October. There are no cuts in cross country.
Pre-season conditioning is encouraged. Athletes will practice
everyday after school. A walking team is available during the
cross country season for any student who cannot participate in
any other sport due to extenuating circumstances.
Girls Volleyball
Volleyball is open to girls in grades 8-12. Volleyball practice
begins on July 31 and runs through the middle of October.
Pre-season conditioning is encouraged. Athletes will practice
everyday after school.
Girls Soccer
Girls soccer is open to girls in grades 8-12. Practice begins on
July 31 and runs through the middle of October. Pre-season
conditioning is encouraged. Athletes will practice every
afternoon after school.
Football
Football is open to boys in grades 7th and 8th. Practice begins
on July 31 until the end of October. Pre-season conditioning is
encouraged. Athletes will practice every afternoon after school.
Boys who are interested in high school football may co-op with
Station Camp High School.
Winter Sports
Cheerleading
Cheerleading is open to girls in grades 7-12. The middle school
squad cheers at middle school football and basketball games. The
varsity squad cheers at varsity basketball games. Tryouts are
held in the spring of each school year.
Basketball
Basketball is open to boys and girls in grades 7-12. Middle
school practice begins four weeks prior to the first scheduled
game. Varsity basketball practice begins October 30. Pre-season
conditioning is encouraged. Athletes will practice everyday
either before or after school.
Bowling
Bowling is open to boys and girls in grades 8-12. Practice
begins the first week of September until mid- December. Athletes
will practice every afternoon after school.
Swimming
Swimming is open to boys and girls in grades 7-12. Practice
begins in September and continues through February. Pre-season
conditioning is encouraged. Athletes will practice every
afternoon after school.
Dance Team
Dance is open to girls in grades 7-12. Tryouts are held in the
spring and the fall. The dance team performs at some basketball
games and other events.
Hockey
Boys who are interested in high school hockey may co-op with
Station Camp High School.
Spring Sports
Baseball
Baseball is open to boys in grades 8-12. Practice begins on
February 12 through mid May. Pre-season conditioning is
encouraged. Athletes will practice every afternoon after school.
Boys Soccer
Boys Soccer is open to boys in grades 8-12. Practice begins on
February 12 through mid May. Pre-season conditioning is
encouraged. Athletes will practice every afternoon after school.
Tennis
Tennis is open to girls and boys in grades 8-12. Practice begins
on February 12 through mid May. Pre-season conditioning is
encouraged. Athletes will practice every afternoon after school.
Track and Field
Track and Field is open to girls and boys in grades 7-12.
Practice begins on February 12 through mid May. There are no
cuts in track and field. Pre-season conditioning is encouraged.
Athletes will practice every afternoon after school.
Please look over this list and make your selection. Information
regarding tryout date, specific dates and times of practices,
physicals, and conditioning may be obtained from the coach.
If you feel your child should have an exemption for any reason,
please contact Mrs. Schreiner and accommodations will be made
based on your child’s individual circumstances.
